last book of 2010

OK when did 2010 happen? last I remember it was august and here we are in Dec...
last few moths zipped by, lots of stuff happening at our craft front, collective craft is taking most of time, Our products venturing out of Delhi and to Pune , and very soon to (fingers crossed) to Mumbai and Ahmedabad, more on that later.
but I did continue to illustrate in the middle of all this madness and here is the last book of 2010.

We have decided to put all our craft products under one label 'collective craft' and Here is the logo. ta-da!!! after much back and forth, we finally have the identity for our craft products. we cannot thank Mona enough,( Mona Gonsai our dear dear friend and an amazing graphic designer) here is a BIG THANK YOU. the colors are not final we are still working/ deciding on them. the form works on a couple of levels but will not get into that. I would love to hear from you guys though!!you can browse all products here.

Brittany occupies a large peninsula in the north west of France, lying between the English Channel in the north and the Bay of Biscay to the south is also called finis terrae, this is only geographically.
' Finis terrae- the end of the earth' is a art show curated by Rainbow Ross, it includes the work of students alumni and faculty of pasca. I feel so happy to be a part of this show. After spending a fantastic semester there I always feel there is a bit of Brittany that I carry around with me. More pictures of individual art work here. these images here are from the show at the le Galerie du Bois in Pont Aven.

I have tried in vain (and for many years now), but I have not been able to retrieve the final cut. have this without sound and only a rough cut :(. I did this with Manisha C, and now we both fear the final/original tapes are lost forever.

Wire City series

This body of work explores the intersection between the physical construction of cities and the society it breeds.

I have been interested in the urban villages that are within Delhi, I did not understand them when I first moved to Delhi, they were not really slums, Sib had pointed them out and explained it to me, The objective of having these urban villages was not to disturb the dwellings of the villagers and therefore keep it out of city planning norms, but over the years what have emerged out of it are rather little pockets of complete chaos.

The people living in these villages are marginalized; they hardly have any access to clean, air, water, electricity, drainage systems or sometime even basic sunlight. In the other hand, the idea of such urban villages is unrealistic because they ignore broader social and economic realities. The ability to create self-contained villages within a huge metropolis city is questionable as employment and activity patterns continue to become more complex.

Trade Fair 2007

All the news of IIFT (India International Trade Fair) at Pragati Maidan in the News papers , made me dig these out, these were done for the Orissa pavilion in 2007. The topic was 'Agriculture and Fisheries' we worked with Pattachitra artists from Raghurajpur, Orissa, Gangadhar Moharana and his students who painted these beautiful works. these were then digitized and composed and printed on flex stretched and mounted. I shall put of actual site pictures and more ( as soon as I can go through some 50 backup DVD's )

'digital illustration'' for Child magazine

This is an attempt to try out digital vector art, I sketched these out on paper and traced them. I can not say that I was quite pleased with this, I am the happiest person when given handmade paper, pencils and paint . well on the positive end things will only get better from now on.....I am quite resolved and will conquer my fear of ' adobe illustrator'. watch out for this space.

This book deals with the significant landmarks that have defined the progress of mankind, within key scientific and human development parameters, in a friendly and direct manner. the illustration were done to keep it witty, light and engaging to a 10-14 year old

Free Mountain

This book took forever and after being shelved for more than a year, we got it all together and printed it, and yay!! it is out for all the kids
I looked at lots of madhubani art while coming with the style.
